The project started with a series of research on wooden joinery. Students are instructed to create different joinery methods on their own in able to explore the various, complexity, and functionality of different wooden joinery.
Student to access and explore multiple ways and restriction on prepare digital file and to construct digital detail with plywood. Variables study of joinery details range from possibility & potentials, strength & weakness, variables with pattern or arrangement, variables with scale, and best use.

With the study research of basic joinery, students are encouraged to apply the knowledge to fabricate one piece of multi-functional furniture, with combining and considering potentials of 3 individual joinery’s potentials, to fabricate one easy-assemble furniture/manipulated panel to react to 3 pre-set condition with change of functionality, usage, adaptability to the surrounding condition.
In this case, students need to explore the potential of joinery toward 3-dimensional volume. By using digital connection furniture are minimize the using any nails or screw fittings, all connection has to be able to be assemble and dissemble into a flat-pack manner. In group of 3, students are expected to share and develop wooden joinery progress from each other and continue the exploration of digital detail to an actual 1:1 scaled modular furniture / manipulated panel with 3 condition. In the end, students are able to construct items based on skills that they learn from the wooden joinery.
03 Keramat Library
The exploration of wooden joinery linked to a live build project happened in Taman Keramat. The community library tends to create a public space for the local children and provide security at the same time. For this library, we have researched and developed this community library with a plywood joinery system and bent plywood fabrication, to allow villagers to be involved in the building assembly process with us for the knowledge exchange. To facilitate this we will organize some workshops prior to and during the building of Keramat Library, to allow knowledge sharing and community bonding. Upon the pilot building of this digitally fabricated structure, we hope to open source the methodology and perform more in-depth research into the possibility of disaster & community relief architecture.
